Coggin' on

What was Coggin’ on?

“When the conductor was at the top of the bus we would jump onto the trolleybus hanging on the pole. This was called coggin’ on. Then the conductor would come running down and you’d jump off!”
Ted Forsyth

Coggin’ On, the trolleybus heritage boardgame, covers the rich history of St.Helens by taking you on a journey on the trolleybuses that were in operation from the 1920’s to the 1950’s.

It has been designed as a fun, interactive way to help children learn about local history and for others to enjoy reminiscing.

The aim of the game is to use the trolleybus routes and other routes to complete missions. The first person to complete all their missions is the winner.

The game has been developed through workshops and consultation with over 300 people of all ages.

The memories of the older generations fill the board game with stories and real history. The children working alongside them have supplied the excellent artwork. It is intended to be historically accurate but it may have some discrepancies as it has been developed in workshops recording memories.
