Older Tenants Receive Help with Fuel Bills
Helena's older tenants can get money off their fuel bills, thanks to a new Government initiative.
The scheme provides people, aged 70 or older, with a one-off rebate on their next electricity bill.
To qualify for the discount of £80, they must meet a number of set criteria:
- There must be at least one person in the household aged 70 or over.
- They must be receiving the 'Guaranteed Element' of Pension Credit but not the 'Savings Credit' element.
- They must be responsible for the electricity account where they live.
- They can not already be benefitting from a discounted tariff.
Many of the rebates will be awarded automatically, however, this may not apply to all tenants. Therefore, anyone who receives a letter from the DWP (Department of Work and Pensions) asking them to call the Helpline is advised do so straight away, so they do not miss out.
