Improving our homes
What we promised in 2002:
- Provide warm, safe and secure homes by improving the housing stock in St Helens
- Improve and develop housing suitable for people with disabilities, older or young people
What we did
We have invested over £270 million in our homes during our first seven years to ensure that all of our properties meet the government's Decent Homes Standard. Our programme of improvements to date has included:
- 9,260 new kitchens
- 8,050 new bathrooms
- 12,700 window replacements
- 9,030 loft insulations
- 4,000 homes rewired
- 10,650 smoke alarms
- 1,500 cavity insulations
- 6,750 central heating systems
- 3,600 replacement roofing
- 1,200 modernisations
Our improvement programme has been one of our major successes, often running ahead of schedule and with a high rate of satisfaction from our tenants.
We also offer assistance to those tenants who need extra facilities in their homes. We have installed a number of level access showers, handrails and ramps for older and disabled tenants who require some adaptations to their homes to make their everyday living easier.
